Stephan Sveshnikov is a PhD Candidate in Russian history at Yale University.

Stephan Sveshnikov is a Ph.D. candidate in Russian history. His research focuses on village life, ecology, and religious culture in the medieval and Imperial periods, especially the White Sea basin and the subarctic. He has a particular interest in the intersection of religion and nature, and how ideas and beliefs about the sacred influence land ethics and environmental history. Stephan received his B.A. at Yale in 2018 and an M.A. at Saint Petersburg State University in 2022. He is a Graduate Fellow at Saybrook College, where he runs Saybrew, the college brewing and fermentation club. Before coming to Yale, Stephan worked as a cheesemaker in Appalachia and as a choral conductor in Salt Lake City, Utah.
