Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi is an IIUM Professor and sustainability expert specializing in governance, public policy, and embedding sustainable development within higher education systems.

Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi is a distinguished sustainability expert and academic leader, currently serving as the Director of the Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Within the same institution, he holds a professorship in the Department of Political Science.

His extensive leadership portfolio includes strategic roles such as Minister Council (Education) at the Malaysian High Commission in London and Deputy Director at the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), where he specialized in governance and leadership training for university executives. Internationally, he has contributed as a Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, focusing on the implementation of sustainability science.

Prof. Zainal holds a PhD in International Studies from Waseda University and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the United Nations University. His academic specialization spans governance, public policy analysis, and education for sustainable development. A frequent speaker at international conferences, his current research is dedicated to the conceptual and organizational challenges of embedding sustainability within higher education and public policy.
