Life Worth Living; Teaching for a Worthy Life

University of Iceland

Course Description:

The main purpose of this course is to give students opportunity to be a part of a learning community and join on a personal journey. The focus will be on the questions “What makes life worth living?” and “How can we live a life worth living?”. This Life Worth Living Course (LWL) is a set of two courses based on the same essential questions. One aims at foundational aspects concerning the good life, moral and educational values, issues concerning diversity, etc., while the other takes over from there and looks at practical applications in students' own lives and various educational settings. Throughout the course critical attitude will be adopted towards diverse philosophies of life and encourage dialogues about the ideas discussed and the methods proposed. The teaching methods used in this course will emphasize students’ autonomy.
