Dr. Tori Lockler, Professor of Instruction in the Department of Religious Studies at University of South Florida, researches the intersection of religion and marginalized peoples.
Dr. Tori Lockler is a Professor of Instruction, Interim Graduate Director and Undergraduate Director in the Department of Religious Studies at University of South Florida. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication from USF. Her dissertation was an autoethnography working with Holocaust survivors to understand the depth of suffering, how that emotion is communicated, and if there is any sense of healing after sharing their stories.
She has taught in the Department of Religious Studies for over fifteen years. Her research is broadly in the area of marginalized or silenced peoples. Her courses are primarily in the area of Religion and Healthcare. The topics include Afro-Caribbean religions, Black Social Movements, Religious Perspectives on Health, Death, and Dying and World Religions for Healthcare Professionals which encourage students to gain an awareness of the worldview of patients to provide the best care.
