Empowering business and healthcare students through interfaith education and pluralist dialogue. Meet Garrett W. Potts, a professor and researcher focused on spiritual caregiving, moral injury, and vocational leadership.
Garrett W. Potts is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of South Florida, where he also obtained his Ph.D. in Philosophy and Religion in 2019. He has taught several courses in Philosophy and Religious Studies, such as Professional Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Intro to Philosophy, Intro to World Religions, Religion & the Meaning of Life, Health, Ethics, & Religion, Religion & Leadership, and World Religions for Healthcare Professionals. In all his courses, Garrett implements the Life Worth Living framework to promote normative deliberation across enduring lines of difference.Garrett believes that the Life Worth Living framework may be applied in professional settings to promote an empathetic engagement with individuals’ religio-cultural backgrounds while, at the same time, challenging students to reflect deeply on the implications of their own spiritual and moral convictions.Outside the classroom, Garrett remains engaged in interfaith organizations and consultancy efforts to support spiritual caregivers in his local community. His primary areas of research include spiritual caregiving, moral injury, work as a calling, and servant leadership.
