Casey Strine is Senior Lecturer in Ancient Near Eastern History and Literature at the University of Sheffield.
Rev. Dr. Casey Strine studies the history, literature, and cultures of the ancient Near East (known to most as the Middle East) with a specialization in ancient Israel and Judah, the two societies that produced the texts known widely as the Old Testament. His approach employs the study of migration to reconstruct ancient history and to interpret ancient texts. Casey's first book, Sworn Enemies (de Gruyter) was a winner of the Manfred Lautenschläger Award for Theological Progress. He has also worked on the intersection of the visual arts with biblical interpretation and theology. He recently co-edited Image as Theology: The Power of Art in Shaping Christian Thought, Devotion, and Imagination (Brepols). He first taught Life Worth Living at Sheffield in 2016, and will teach it in the 2023-24 academic year for the seventh time. Alongside his academic work, Casey is a priest in the Church of England, where he serves as the Bishop of Sheffield’s Advisor on Interfaith Affairs. He is also Minor Canon Theologian at the Sheffield Cathedral.
