How Should I Live? The Pursuit of Life Worth Living
Shalom Hartman Institute
Course Description:
The goal of this course is to equip students to begin formulating, articulating, and enacting a personal vision of a life worth living and to engage others in the shared pursuit of such a life. Recognizing that such a vision is never fully complete, the course emphasizes both the importance of existential clarity and the practical need for ongoing refinement. To that end, students will undertake an exploration of fundamental questions surrounding human flourishing. Drawing from religious and secular philosophical traditions, as well as from modern literary, autobiographical, and cultural works, the course will help students discern what they know and what they still need to figure out about how they should live.
