Welcome to this class on Positive Psychology! We are looking forward to this semester with you. We will introduce you to Positive Psychology, a branch of psychology that has grown over the past 25 years. Major concepts you will learn include the history of Positive Psychology, cultural perspectives of Positive Psychology,
and states, traits, activities, and commitments that psychologists study to better understand and describe the “good life”. Each week, you will complete a module that contains readings and activities that help you learn and apply Positive Psychology. We hope you will develop a clear knowledge of what Positive Psychology is. But
even more, we hope you will join us in wrestling with the questions about how this information applies to our lives.
We will wrestle with questions like:
What is Positive Psychology, and why study it?
How do we examine “the good life” within and across different cultures?
What does a good life look like at different moments or stages in life?
What is the main target of a good life?
What traits and states align with your understanding of a good life?
How does your view of the good life apply to your relationships or institutional commitments?
